Long Winter Days

March Notes from Levi the Schnauzer
Guest Blogger Day

When my human first asked me to be a guest blogger on her adventures blog I thumbed my paw up at the idea. Who in their right mind wants to write about our boring life? What do we do that’s adventurous? We don’t even go to the dog park anymore or walk around the neighborhood. I think she’s allergic to that white stuff humans call snow but it’s actually pieces of clouds that fell from the sky. Even if we did go to the dog park she never, ever smells another human’s butt which is probably the reason why she has so much trouble making new friends. For us canine types, we just strut up to our own kind and take a reading off their butts and we know right away if they are friends or foes. What does she do? She dances around with small talk. Blah, blah, blah...while I dance around at her feet begging her to let me off the leash. Now that would be an adventure! Moomie---that’s what I call my human---has been fattening up the rabbits with corn all winter. It’s time to chase one down and bring it home for the soup pot. I’m sick of smelling chicken soup in the house. Her idea of adventure lately is to sit and knit mittens. Mittens here, mittens there. They’d be growing out of her ears if I didn’t make her throw one of my stuffies once in a while! My human is boring. I think I’ve established that beyond a doubt.

I do worry about my human though. When she gets up in the mornings sometimes she doesn’t seem to want to face the day ahead of her. She sits on the edge of the bed like FOREVER before moving to kitchen. I do my best to entertain her but I can't drive or fly an airplane so my choices are limited. I try to get her to go outside with me and my stuffie. I beg and pout and make a nuisance of myself until she gets up from the computer or her knitting station and opens the door. Then I beg her to follow me outside but she seems to have her mind-reading dial set too low and she isn’t receiving the messages I’m sending. She used to do that sometimes when my other human, Daady, was alive, too. He went to The Rainbow Bridge just before my forth birthday. I just turned seven and I still miss him. Especially in the mornings when we would have howling contests until Moomie would make us quit. Mornings were noisy when he was around. Now all I hear is the clicking of knitting needles. One of these days I'm going to bury those stupid needles in the back yard!

Got to go. A sun ray just came in through the dining room door and I have to go hold it down so it stays around for a while. See you again in April assuming this guest blogging gig makes Moomie happy. Ø

  3. You're as articulate and entertaining as my Merlin Bichon was who after 18 years is now playing on the Rainbow Bridge. Soon the snow will be gone and maybe Moomie will once walk you in the dog park. So until then keep woofing at her.

  4. Levi--I gotta tell you--Moomie is just tired of those clouds that come down to earth and that dang cold. You know how that cold ground makes your paws hurt? Well, that cold makes Moomie's ears and eyes and nose hurt too. You know how hard it is for her to keep warm? Even in the house, she is all bundled up. So, one of these days, it will get all warm outside and then Moomie will take you for a nice walk. Maybe even to the dog park. I guess you will just have to sniff your own butt until then.

  5. Levi doesn't think he needed to comment on a comment. And since it's a running debate in the world blogging etiquette with him on the "winning side" I can't argue with him. But I had to say I laughed out loud when I read Judy's comment and I thank the rest of you for reading Levi's debut post. He's agreed to come back as a guest blogger the first of every month.
