Frozen in Michigan
No post today. No heat or power since Thursday. Had to leave. No power or heat expected until Sunday or Monday. May have frozen pipes, did what I could but may not be enough.
Thinking of you and glad you’re somewhere warm. Do hope your house problems from freezing cold can be resolved with minimal costs and associated problems.
Oh, NO! I can't do a danged thing but send warm thoughts, and cross every toe and finger and leg and arm that I have that your pipes stay unfrozen. Now, I'm off to read Michigan news and see what's up -- if this is local or more widespread.
I am so sorry. I truly hope you are ok. I apologize if this comes in twice, I had to update. I read all the time, only commented once before. Margie from Arkansas.
Oh Jean, I'm so very sorry. I'll keep my fingers crossed on the power. Ice, I'm guessing, took down lines? Stay safe and warm. And all good luck to you.
Thank you all for the well wishes, prays and concerns. I'm finally back home and all of my water pipes made it through the shut down, draining, temperatures outside down to 15. Then it had to be reversed to look for cracks and leaks. The only thing I still have to check is the dishwasher and washing machine but am waiting for hot water for that. Media was telling people to put RV antifreeze in them but no access to it---few stores had power. Now I have to throw out all the food in the refrigerator and freezer and go to the store for groceries, so I have a busy afternoon ahead of me.
I'll write an entire blog about being a "power outrage refugee" for Wednesday. 268,000 people in the state lost power and my county was ground zero. So grateful to all the power company workers from other states who came to help. Between the low temperatures, ice hanging on EVERYTHING and high winds they had it bad and were working 12 hour shifts, around the clock since wednesday and still aren't done. I could kiss them all!
So glad to see you surface. I've been checking periodically. I looked up your area and saw what was going on. I'm glad your power people got some help. Those are really tough conditions to deal with.
Those power people are going to get a work out. Part of them are staying in MI for the next ice storm tomorrow, but the other part are staging to help other states.
OH MY! I'm glad you are safe. This winter has been crazy here too. 16-degrees and 8 inches of snow on the ground. Unheard of for Seattle. But thank god I have not lost power. Sending you warm hugs!
The only real house problem I had was my landline telephone. It took me an hour to get it working again. I was lucky. Our news told of four storm related house fires and lots of wait time to get plumbers out.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear! I hope your pipes survive unscathed -- but much smarter to leave and protect your health than stay and protect your property.
ReplyDeleteYikes, what an awful situation. How on earth are you keeping warm? Do take care and hope they can restore your power today.

I'm glad your aftereffects were not more severe and costly. Thanks for checking in.
DeleteI lost everything in the freezer and refrigerator but I feel fortunate. First grocery store visit was 208.32 though.
DeleteOh my gosh!! What a winter for you. We had to spend night before flight at hotel by airport. 3hr Delayed flight. But we are here. Cold and rainy!!!
ReplyDeleteThe weather map shows a lot of the country will have some wild weather this coming week. I'm glad you got to Maui okay. Enjoy your time there.
